It’s the opening race of the cycling season. It’s the first big event that every professional athlete has been waiting for. But it’s also the first chance for the amateurs to get back on the saddle, the event that drags everyone out of their winter sleep. This is what the Strade Bianche Crèdit Agricole and the Gran Fondo are all about. Taking place during the first weekend in March and considered “the sixth monument” of the road cycling calendar, this Tuscan event combines the vintage charm of gravel riding with the technicality of modern cycling.

A unique synthesis that seduces thousands each year: fans one day, cheering on their heroes during Saturday’s pro race, superstars the next, as they race in the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche along the same dusty roads as their idols.

And for this 2023 edition, Sitip is once again partnering with RCS Sport and Strade Bianche Crèdit Agricole, bringing it ever closer to the cycling world. Indeed, Sitip specialises in high-performance fabrics, perfectly suited to creating advanced sportswear with a range of quality pieces for progressive sports enthusiasts.

And this year Sitip wanted to blow the Gran Fondo’s participants away with a vest that they’ll all find in their race pack when picking up their bib. Every cyclist knows exactly how useful a vest can be when out on a long ride: perfect for providing protection from any sudden changes in temperature or when descending rapidly after a hard, sweaty climb.

The vests that will go to the 6,500 participants of the Gran Fondo have been produced by Sportful, a Manifattura Valcismon brand from Fonzaso (Veneto – Italy), that’s been a leading light in the sports sector for many years, using fabric manufactured in Bergamo by Sitip.

A bi-stretch warp-knitted fabric composed of 83% polyester and 17% elastane, made with ECLIPSE Sun Protection technology making the fabric non-see-through and offering optimum UV protection (UPF 50+). Furthermore, the fabric has undergone the cutting-edge AQUAZERO ECO fluorine-free water repellent treatment, delivering environmentally friendly water repellency through the use of fluorine-free chemicals in compliance with the bluesign and OEKO-TEX certifications.  As a result, the fabric is also highly wash-resistant, whilst maintaining its excellent breathability and quick air-drying properties. All of which ensures maximum comfort for the cyclist, both during the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche as well as throughout the cycling season ahead.
